ISACA Has Seen the Future of World Cybersecurity (Sort Of)

What is in store for security professionals in 2018?Hey, everybody, 'tis the season to be jolly! 'Tis also the season, however, when we think ahead about things that may or may not happen in the coming year. Often we think aspirationally about such things — What can I do to bring about (item of change) in (year that is about to dawn)? — but we also often think predictively: What is about to occur in (year that is about to dawn) that I and other people should be ready for? It's in that predictive frame of mind that we bring you a recent post to the ISACA Now Blog of security and governance association ISACA. Guest blogger Ravikumar Ramachandran breaks out his crystal ball and predicts what will be the five most impactful cybersecurity developments for 2018. First up on the list is that we are all about to experience "huge demand for security professionals with evolving and grounded expertise." It's a pretty safe prediction, but one that still bears paying attention to, particularly for those of us in the certification sphere. Certification, after all, is an excellent means of maintaining your "evolving and grounded expertise" in the cybersecurity realm. Got a new cybersecurity credential in mind for 2018?

Certiport Fires up Microsoft Office Specialist 2018 Championship

We're a little bit behind the eight ball on this one: IT training and certification provider Certiport actually pulled the trigger on its starting pistol in the second week of November. There's still plenty of time, however, for educators and students to begin preparing to compete in what is almost certainly the largest competition of its kind. It's also one of the only competitions of its kind, and an excellent way to help students get excited about the value and impact of IT certification training. The Microsoft Office Specialist credential, which Certiport (a subsidiary of Pearson VUE) extensively supports for Microsoft Learning, is a certification with excellent potential for high school, junior high school, and middle school students. Each year, Certiport sponsors a worldwide competition for students pursuing MOS certification in the key Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. For the current competition, students can study up on either the 2013 or 2016 versions of all three programs. In the United States, winners of state competitions go on to compete in a national event, which passes the victors along to a world championship event involving the winners from countries around the globe. The 2018 MOS World Championship is set to be held July 29 through Aug. 1 in Orlando, Fla.

Oracle Certification Can Help You Select the Right Oracle Certification

Anyone who has considered pursing an IT credential from database titan Oracle could tell you: The Oracle certification pyramid (or tree, or ginormously labyrinthine incomprehensible flowchart, or pick your own metaphor) is a Byzantine abomination that could fluster the most determined IT adventurer. OK, yeah, that probably came out a little harsh. Let's just say it can be confusing. Actually, even Oracle Certification thinks it can be confusing. That's the jumping off point for a recent Oracle Certification blog post than anyone with an interest in Oracle's many, many IT credentials should most certainly put a pin in. Oracle Certification blogger Brandye Barrington explains in step-by-step fashion how to figure out which Oracle credential is the one you need. It's an invaluable tool for anyone who wants to become Oracle certified, but has struggled to figure out the correct path to follow.
